It always amazes me that journalists cannot seem to grasp the concept of the Grateful Dead as a constant. It's as if we don't exist during periods when the band isn't gaining mainstream media attention.

"Well, for the fourteen years since Jerry died, I've been a logger down there at the Bohemian Grove. Since they're back on tour, I guess I'll be a Deadhead for a couple months. After that, maybe I'll get another job, or maybe I'll just be a Steely Dan fanatic."

They'll just never get it.

Yep. Same thing happened when the Dead "turned 20" back in 1986...all the TV news stations had the same stupid 90 second report about the band w/the same focus of "Look what we discovered...the Grateful Dead ARE STILL AROUND!" and they even have NEW FANS.

Ummmm...yeah. We know.

Hey, they got a MTV special out of the deal. If that isn't the pinnacle of musical greatness, I don't know what is.

They got that and I got some vomit on my shoes. "I need more acid!" indeed. There are some things about "the good ol' days" I do NOT miss.

I got my car window broken at that Richmond show - I couldn't find my keys and my buddy thought he saw them on the seat and pried open the window with disastrous results.

Of course, the keys were in my other frriend's pocket - the one who broke and subsequently bought the window.

A mind is a terrible thing when wasted....

These articles are somewhat amusing at first but there actually more of a disrespect of the music, so f em.

My car was broken into at a 86 Brendan Byrne show and I had all my tapes stolen. Not the stereo. Not the clothes. Not the beer in the back. This/these prick(s) broke into my car ONLY for Dead tapes.

Now, unlike yourself, these bastards did not turn out to be my friends...I think...

One has to query about the karmic payback sitting around listening to dead tapes someone stole (and then sold?).

That truly sucks. Buddy of mine had his tapes stolen in DC - lots of Dead but just parking his car in a "bad neighborhood".

Dead Heads stealing tapes? That is one of the most depressing things I've ever heard. But I shouldn't be surprised. By 1987 some of the biggest assholes I ever had the displeasure of meeting started showing up on tour.

Usually in BMW's their Daddys bought for them. They all called me "dude" and wanted to sell me coke.

Beginning of the end.
